Cyrk
Cyrk is the Berlin-based duo of Sammy Goossens and Pascal Hetzel. Originally intended as a fun hardware-only live project on the side, both of them quickly realized that they were on to something more special. Their extended, genre traversing live jams bristled with the kind of raw energy that was just too good not to capture on vinyl. So Goossens and Hetzel shifed their focus and began to concentrate on Cyrk, resulting in the birth of the correspondent label and a string of releases on other imprints such as Rawax, Hike, or Vakant. Their interpretations of Detroit’s techno and electro legacy (Goosens co-produced Suburban Knight’s last album on Peacefrog back in the early 2000s, but that is a whole other story) mixed with nods to industrial and acid variations has earned them the recognition of many DJs. Most notably Pudel resident and purveyor of neo-gothic acid and electro Helena Hauff, who featured one of their then unreleased tracks—which Hauff played from a dubplate they had pressed exclusively for the Hamburg-based producer/DJ—on the mix accompanying her Mixmag cover story, as well as Ostgut’s Steffi or Detroit’s own fast-paced electro futurist DJ Stingray. Recently, they were featured in FACT’s “Against The Clock” YouTube video series, which films artists programming and producing a track in 10 minutes, as well as in one of Telekom Electronic Beats’ EB.TV tech talks. A second ep for Rawax is in the making and is due out in the first half of 2019 , as well as a second installement for Hike and a debut ep on Kneaded Pains . Clubs and festivals they have played include Womb/Tokyo, Panorama Bar/Berlin, Analog Room/Dubai, Rex/Paris, Folklor/Lausanne, N.A.M.E. Festival/Lille, Epizode Festival/Phu Quoc and Inside Festival/Moscow.
